2011 Upper Klamath River Festival Details

The UK Festival is almost here! ORT and Team River Runner PDX have been busy at work planning a great event- including Sunday racing on the Nugget/Powerhouse section of the Upper Rogue. Check out the Facebook event page.

Upper Klamath- 7 miles, (Class IV+ / V-). Mass start by division at Frain Ranch, finish at State Line Falls. Divisions include: kayak (over 9 feet), kayak (under 9 feet), R2 and R6 paddle rafts (14 feet or less in length, 3 thwarts), cataraft (unlimited). High water cutoff=4,000cfs, Low water cutoff=1,000cfs. Safety for this event will be set up at major rapids on the run. The total run is approximately 7 miles. Of significance, Caldera and Hell’s Corner are the bigger rapids on the run and will have safety set up both on the water (kayakers) and on shore with throw ropes.

Upper Rogue- 4 miles, (Class III+). Mass start by division above Nugget Rapid, finish below Powerhouse Rapid. Divisions include: kayak (over 9 feet), kayak (under 9 feet), R2 and R6 paddle rafts (14 feet or less in length, 3 thwarts), cataraft (unlimited). Safety for this event will be set up at the 2 major rapids on the run.

$30 participant fee for the weekend- includes shuttles for both days, Next Adventure BBQs, Race photos, and ACA insurance.

Activities Schedule: FREE Camping Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights at Noah’s Rafting Warehouse. Shelter available if raining. Directions : North Ashland exit, exit #19. West on Valley View Road, right on Lowe Road, about 100 meters take a left just before Pacific pride gas station, follow this driveway to the warehouse.

Saturday April 9
· 8:00am SHARP: all competitors meet for shuttle and registration. Meeting place is Noah’s Rafting Warehouse (above).
· 8:15 – Depart for JC Boyle/Spring Island put in.
· 9:45 – Arrive at the put in. All competitors quickly rig boats and gear up.
· 10:15 – All participants safety meeting. Establish pod leaders and groups.
· 10:45 – 1st pod shoves off, all other pods staged and depart at 5 minute intervals.
· 11:45 – Stop above Caldera Rapid, river left, for a scout and snack.
Safety boaters and camera personnel will have a 15 minute head start to stage for R2, kayak, and cataraft race.
· 12:15 – WWCS Racing: R6s, long/short kayaks, catarafts (Caldera to State Line Falls). Remaining pods shove off at 5 minute intervals.
· 1:45 – 2:00 – All competitors gather at take out river left below State Line.
· 2:30 – Load shuttle vehicles for drive to Ashland.
· 3:00 – Depart take out (exact take out will be determined later but will be at or very close to State Line Access).
· 4:15 – Arrive Albertson's parking lot.
· 5:00 on – Food, refreshments, awards, video/photos of the day at Noah’s Warehouse.

Sunday April 10
· 9:00 – Depart Noah's for Upper Rogue (below former Gold-Ray dam) put in.
· 9:30 – Arrive at the put in. All competitors quickly rig boats and gear up.
· 10:00 – All participants safety meeting. Establish pod leaders and groups.
Safety boaters and camera personnel will have a 15 minute head start to stage for R2, kayak, and cataraft race.
· 11:45 – Stop above Nugget Rapid, river left.
· 12:15 – WWCS Racing: R2s, long/short kayaks, catarafts (Nugget to Powerhouse). Remaining pods shove off at 5 minute intervals.
· 1:00 – 1:15 – All competitors gather below Powerhouse Rapid.
· 1:30 - Arrive at take-out (river right) at Gold Hill bridge for refreshments and awards.
· 3:00 - Depart for Noah's (if you didn't drive your vehicle to the take-out in the morning).

Prizes for this year's event graciously provided by: Whitewater Designs, Immersion Research, Sotar, Team Quest, and Keen!

· The 4th Annual Upper River Festival is part of the Western Whitewater Championship Series (WWCS) which is endorsed by the United States Rafting Association (USRA).
· This series will be run with adherence to rules set forth by the International Rafting Federation (IRF) as these rules may apply.
· All WWCS events will be ran in accordance of all local regulations (permits), be insured by the American Canoe Association (ACA), and demonstrate environmental awareness at all times.
· WWCS entrance fees will be kept to an absolute minimum with the goal to simply cover costs such as permit fees, insurance, fuel, etc.

2011 Upper Klamath Whitewater Fest

This years festival is now being coordinated! The event will occur on April 9th and 10th and is put on with a combined effort of the Oregon Rafting Team and Noahs Rafting

The format will be similar to last years

Saturday will be an R2/ race - all other boats will fun float
Sunday will be an R6/ kayak race - all other boats will fun float

Race Itinerary

Upper Klamath River Festival April 17-18, 2010

7 miles, Class (IV+ / V-). Mass start by division at Frain Ranch, finish at State Line Falls. Division include: kayak (over 9 feet), kayak (under 9 feet), R2 and R4 paddle rafts (14 feet or less in length, 3 thwarts), cataraft (unlimited).
High water cutoff=4,000cfs,
Low water cutoff=1,000cfs.

Activities Schedule:

FREE Camping Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights at Noah’s Rafting Warehouse. Shelter available if raining.
Directions : North Ashland exit, exit #19. West on Valley View Road, right on Lowe Road, about 100 meters take a left just before Pacific pride gas station, follow this driveway to the warehouse.

The UK race fee is $30 per competitor per day or $40 for both days. Registration fee includes: all shuttles from/to Noah's, race photos, t-shirt, and Next Adventure sponsored-BBQs. Note that 1 day of shuttle miles = 220 miles, and 2 days= 440 miles of driving for an average gas cost of $35 per day or $70 for 2 days based on a vehicle getting 20mpg and a gas cost of $3 per gallon.

· 1:45 – 2:00 – All competitors gather at take out river left below State Line for run debrief and discussion.
· 2:30 – Load shuttle vehicles for drive to Ashland.
· 3:00 – Depart take out (exact take out will be determined later but will be at or very close to State Line Access).
· 4:15 – Arrive Albertsons parking lot.
· 4:45 – Food and refreshments at Noah’s Warehouse.

Sunday April 18th

All timelines and locations still apply.

The only difference will be to stop at Frain Ranch and start race there. Safety boaters and camera personnel will have a 15 minute head start to stage. R4, kayak, and cataraft race.
4:45 - Noah’s for barbeque and awards ceremony.
